Things to Avoid, the 1916 public safety poster ("Never consult a neighbor when the baby is sick. Ask your doctor"; "Never 'dope' the baby with soothing syrups. They contain harmful drugs."; "Never use pacifiers. They are germ carriers. They cause protruding jaws"; "Never rock, trot or toss the baby. The baby is happier and healthier if kept quiet"; "Never wake the baby to show him off. It interferes with his growth."; "Never let anyone kiss the baby on the mouth. Diseases are carried in this way"; "Never let strong light shine in baby's eye. It may mean permanent injury") created by the National Child Welfare Association, and featuring art of multiple mothers and babies.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this poster has an image likely taken from a poster that was printed in 1916 (it even has the 1916 copyright at lower left) but it does not appear to be from that time period. It could be from the mid century, but it could also be older or even newer, but we are not 100% certain. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here and please do not bid on this poster if you are uncomfortable with the uncertainty.

Condition: very good. The poster has two punch holes with grommets at top to assist with hanging. It has a small tear at right.
