Date Sold 9/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Tri-Folded Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The Lawful Cheater, the 1925 Frank O'Connor silent family romantic teenage crime melodrama ("Not an awful cheater - just a lawful cheater"; about a teenage woman who comes from a poor Irish family and she joins the gang her two brothers and boyfriend are in, and she dresses as a boy, and she is arrested along with them by police who think she is a boy!; she reveals she is a girl to the judge, who agrees to let them go on the condition that she helps her brothers and boyfriend reform) starring Clara Bow, Raymond McKee, George Cooper, Edward Hearn, and David Kirby. Note that this was one of Clara Bow's first starring roles, and that she received top billing (larger than her co-stars), and she was just 20 years old! Also note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from this movie until we received this six-sheet! Not only that, but we only previously auctioned one other six-sheet with Clara Bow, and that was 19 years ago! Note that this six-sheet was printed in 6 sections designed to overlap. Also note this six-sheet poster was tri-folded only (which means there is one less vertical machine fold than usual). This means the poster has a significantly lesser number of folds than with six-sheets folded in the "regular" way, which is nice! Tri-folded six-sheets need to be sent in an oversized flat package, which measures roughly 13" x 30", so they cost more to send than regularly folded six-sheets, especially if they are sent to non-U.S. addresses. Condition: good. The poster was used in Australia (which is likely how it survived!), and the Australian distributor printed a paper snipe for the Australian release that has been glued over the bottom right corner (see our image). Someone wrote the stars and the title of the movie in the upper right blank border, so that when the poster was fully folded, they did not have to open the poster to see what it was. There is also paper loss scattered down the right border and some somewhat minor gold and other border wear. There is also staining over the bottom right section, and a lesser amount in the middle right section, and there are water stains scattered across the top of the poster. This is the sort of poster that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the staining can be removed through chemical means, and there is almost no paper loss anywhere in the image, so after linenbacking, the poster will look fantastic, but please bear in mind all of the above before bidding on this incredibly rare poster.
