eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5w0322 ACE OF ACES WC 1933 great art of pacifist turned WWI pilot Richard Dix & Allan, rare! Date Sold 9/17/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Ace of Aces, the 1933 J. Walter Ruben World War I (WWI) fighter pilot airplane aviation thriller ("A blazing tale of clash and combat... the drama of a woman's heroic battle for a burned-out soul"; "From the story by John Monk Saunders, author of 'Wings' and 'The Dawn Patrol'"; about a sculptor who doesn't believe in fighting, but his girlfriend shames him into joining the army, and he becomes a pilot, and undergoes a severe personality shift, for good and bad) starring Richard Dix, Elizabeth Allan, Ralph Bellamy, Theodore Newton, Joe Sauers, Nella Walker, and William Cagney (uncredited in his first movie role!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there is a very unusual oddity about this card. The back of it has part of an ad for The Invisible Man glued to it, which came out the same year. The portion of the ad that is present measures 11 1/2" x 11 1/2", and it looks like it is probably part of a pressbook page. It could be removed from the back of the card, but obviously much restoration would be needed to make it presentable (see our image). Also note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card! Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good. The card has some faint stains, creases, and smudges around the edges, with a few scattered throughout the card. Someone once started to fold the card across the middle, but apparently thought better of it, but there are a few creases in that area. Someone once trimmed the top blank area and either that blank top was re-attached from the back, or a different card from the same vintage was attached from the back. This card can still be displayed as it is, or restoration can be performed. Bear the above in mind before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
