An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Herald (measures 4 1/2" x 6" [11 x 15 cm]; 6 pages) (Learn More)

Ziegfeld's Rio Rita, the 1929 Luther Reed epic romantic musical comedy ("Ziegfeld's colossal girl - music spectacle"; "Ziegfelds's fabulous all-talking, all-singing super screen spectacle"; "Radio's picture of the century"; "You'll see and hear these myriad wonders in the wonder show of the ages."; "Bebe Daniels a sensation as she sings the stirring love songs..."; "John Boles screen's greatest tenor..."; "Bert Wheeler's bouncing comedy..."; "Dorothy Lee.. Robert Woolsey and a thousand other operatic voices and glorified beauties in gorgeous costumes and settings"; "The motion picture of the century... the Eighth Wonder of the World"; "Mammoth scenes in Technicolor"; "Story by Guy Bolton and Fred Thompson"; one of the earliest big budget musicals of the sound era, the first from RKO Radio; as usual, there is a throwaway plot involving Bebe Daniels as a Hispanic girl with a notorious bandit brother, which serves to tie together the many songs, and Wheeler & Woolsey are along for comic relief; the movie was a huge success, and after this movie, Wheeler & Woolsey appeared in a string of movies together throughout the 1930s) starring Bebe Daniels (in the title role as Rita Ferguson), John Boles, Bert Wheeler & Robert Woolsey (Wheeler & Woolsey), Dorothy Lee, and Don Alvarado. Note that this movie contained a Technicolor sequence, and it still exists. Also note that the movie was remade in 1942, with Abbott & Costello in the Wheeler & Woolsey roles!

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this herald, and the last one was 10 years ago!

Note that this is from a wonderful collection of heralds we were recently consigned. We auctioned the first 30 from this collection (the very best ones) in our just-concluded April Major Auction. We will auction more from this collection every four weeks until they are all sold, and this time there are 43 different ones (all are in separate auctions), and they include many that we have either never before auctioned or only auctioned once or twice before.. The collection only included one of each herald, so on the rare ones, it may be quite some time before we offer the same title again!

Condition: good to very good.
