An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Stan Laurel (born Arthur Stanley Jefferson) was an actor from the 1910s to the 1950s. He, along with his partner Oliver Hardy, is best remembered as part of the great comedy team "Laurel and Hardy". He had a solo career in the early 1920s, but in 1926, he joined with Hardy (who had been a major star in the mid 1910s), and they made many legendary movies, including Sons of the Desert, Way Out West, Big Business, Helpmates, The Music Box, Tit for Tat, Towed in a Hole, Them Thar Hills, and Liberty. He passed away in 1965 at the age of 74. In 2019, a film biography, "Stan & Ollie", starring John C. Reilly and Steve Coogan, was released, and while it did what most film biographies did, which is to play fast and loose with the truth, it was generally very well received and one can only hope it will cause new generations to seek out this classic duo's wonderful movies (both features and shorts)! If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we do not know when this poster is from! It would appear to be from the early 1920s at the earliest, or the early 1930s at the latest. It seems odd that Laurel is billed by himself, which would seem to guarantee that this was a poster for solo Stan Laurel comedy shorts, and NOT Laurel & Hardy shorts. We can find little about "Pinnacle Productions", other than that they made a few movies between the early 1920s and the early 1930s. The printer is "Geo. Schmitt & Co. Brooklyn", and we could find little about them. The top of the poster says "Randolph Crossley presents", but we can find out nothing about him. If I had to take my best guess, I would think that this poster was made in the late 1920s by a company that bought the rights to the solo Stan Laurel comedy shorts after his great success with Oliver Hardy, and that they re-released them to theaters. If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. In any event, the poster has a great stone litho image of Stan Laurel, one I have never seen before! Condition: good to very good. The poster had creases, tears, and areas of paper loss along all the foldlines, and many years ago, someone put tape on the back of all the foldlines. Prior to linenbacking, the tape was removed, and the poster required significant restoration on all the foldlines. There were stains and smudges in the bottom blue area (evidently, this was intended as a blank area for theaters to write in the title of a specific short, and this area has had much paint on it, to "even it out"). The restoration was done fairly well for many years ago, for I think many people could display this poster just as it is. Note that there was new paper placed over the tattered borders (not covering the small writing at the bottom) but that new paper has had some tiny paper loss over the years. If I owned this great poster, I would surely have it professionally re-backed by a talented professional. Please realize that you COULD display this poster just as it is, but that it DOES have the defects and restoration described above, so please do not bid on this poster unless you have carefully read the above (and looked at our super-sized image), and can accept the restoration this cool poster has had or are willing to have it properly re-restored!
