An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Murder By Television, the 1935 Clifford Sanforth TV murder mystery crime horror thriller (about an inventor of a new method by which television signals can be instantaneously sent anywhere in the world) starring Bela Lugosi, June Collyer, Huntley Gordon, George Meeker, Henry Mowbray, Hattie McDaniel, and Charles Hill Mailes. Note of course that television was in its infancy in 1935, and that the public was fascinated by it. Surprisingly, it did not "catch on" in any meaningful way throughout the 1930s and most of the 1940s, partially because the technology did not yet exist to transmit television signals long distances, and partially because it required lots of people owning enough TVs to warrant building transmitters and creating TV shows, but lots of people wouldn't buy TVs until there were lots of TV shows to watch, and this did not get solved until the early 1950s, over 15 years after this movie was made!

Important Added Info: Note that first release movie paper from this early Bela Lugosi movie is incredibly rare! We have only auctioned the one-sheet two times (and those were both the same example!), as well as a single pressbook. We have never before auctioned even one lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. The card was in a frame and it darkened somewhat in the light areas, and there is more darkening in the extreme outer edges of the blank borders. There are pinholes around the edges and some tiny surface paper loss in the right of the bottom blank border, and a couple of other tiny areas in the blank borders. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! One could hope to find a better condition card from this movie, but they might be waiting for many years to do so!
