eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 8b059 GEORGE FOREMAN VS. MUHAMMAD ALI WC '74 World Heavyweight Boxing Championship in Africa! Date Sold 6/16/2015Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Origin Vintage Window Card Poster (measures 14" x 18" [36 x 46 cm]) (Learn More) George Foreman VS. Muhammad Ali, the 1974 sport boxing event ("Exclusive theatre telecast"; "The greatest heavyweight championship battle of all time"; "Live from Africa on Big Screen Closed Circuit TV"; "World Heavyweight Championship"; "Direct from Kinshasa, Zaire - Tuesday, September 24"; "15 rounds"; "No home TV or radio broadcast") promoting a fight between George Foreman ("World Heavyweight Champion") and Muhammad Ali ("Former World Heavyweight Champion"). The fight was originally to take place on September 24th but was moved to October 30th. This is the legendary fight where Ali used his "rope-a-dope" to win back the Championship from the much younger Foreman. It has been called "arguably the greatest sporting event of the 20th century". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned a large poster version of this same window card. It measured 39" x 47" and it sold for $1,052! This poster has an interesting difference. It has been overprinted with the new date for the fight in red at upper left (with "RESCHEDULED DATE" above it), while the poster did not. We are certain this is an original window card from before the fight, and not any sort of later reproduction. Condition: good to very good. The window card had a top blank area that was trimmed off. There is light water staining down the let side of the poster and across the bottom (see our image). Someone started to lightly fold the card near the middle, and there are partial horizontal creases to the left of the shoulders of both fighters. There is a pinhole in each corner and a scratch in the top left over part of the word "WORLD", with just a few creases and scuffs scattered in the image, including one in Foreman's hair. The window card was framed at one time and there was tape on the back of the corners and the center of each border, and it was removed, causing surface paper loss on the back of the card, but it does not affect the front.
