Date Sold 4/23/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 2 Wright Brothers stamp sheets (with 50 stamps per sheet, containing a total of 100 stamps). Our consignor's father purchased these stamps many, many years ago, and our consignor has given us nine of these lots (the other eight are in eight other separate auctions). Orville and Wilbur Wright (the Wright Brothers) were aviators and inventors in the early 1900s. They were credited with building the world's first successful airplane and making the first controlled, powered, and sustained heavier-than-air manned flight on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. They did not "invent" the airplane, but they made important modifications to what had been previously created. They sold their patents to the Curtiss-Wright company. Wilbur passed away in 1912, and Orville lived until 1948. Note that the items in this lot are from 1949. Measurements: 9" x 10 1/4"Condition: very good to fine.
