In 1971 he became TV critic at The Spectator and in 1980 TV columnist at The Toronto Star, Canada's largest newspaper, retiring in 2008. He has written widely on movies and TV for TV Guide, Films In Review, Classic Images and Film Fan Monthly. Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for a group of 11 autographed REPRODUCTION photos. Each has been personally autographed (signed) by one of the following ELEVEN people: Olivia De Havilland, Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Rhonda Fleming, Anne Shirley, George Sidney, Gayle Hunicutt, Ann Sothern, Maud Adams, and there are three other signatures we cannot identify. If anyone knows who else signed, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Our consignor was a good friend of Jim Bawden, who, for many years, was the main movie reviewer for the Toronto Daily Star newspaper. Mr. Bawden passed away recently and our consignor purchased these from his estate. He does not have a certificate of authenticity, but given that we know that Mr. Bawden became person friends with many celebrities (and the inscription on this photo is personalized to him), we are certain the signature on this photo is authentic (and the same is true of the other photos from this estate we were consigned). As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased (although we prefer they do any "authenticating" while the auction is "live" and before they place a bid) and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
