An Original Vintage Unfolded French World War I Poster (measures 23 3/4" x 31 3/4" [60 x 81 cm]) (Learn More)

American Ouvroir Funds, the 1918 French World War I (WWI) poster ("1778-1783 America owes France the most unalterable gratitude."; "1917-... French comrade, your children shall be as our children."; "Annual allowances for support and education of French War Orphans") encouraging people to donate, and featuring Lucien Jonas art of an American soldier standing with two children over the grave of their father, a French soldier, illustrating how Americans felt it was their obligation to take care of the French orphans from World War I. Note that this poster was printed in France, and it appears that the blue printing at the top and the red printing at the bottom were overprinted. The poster would have been made with those areas blank, and then there would have been this "American" version with English overprinted, and a separate "French" version with French overprinted, and the poster would have been distributed in both countries. This poster has a stamp at the bottom that reads "Copyright in U.S.A. 1918 by Otis A. Mygatt". We have never auctioned the French version of this poster.
Artist: Lucien Jonas

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded and has minor border wear.
