An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

Under the Lash, the 1921 Sam Wood silent South Africa romantic love triangle melodrama ("Adapted from the novel 'The Shulamite' by Alice and Claude Askew and the play by Claude Askew and Edward Knoblock"; about a Boer farmer in South Africa who has a beautiful young wife, and then an Englishman visits, and he and the wife fall in love, and the farmer threatens to kill his wife, and the Englishman kills him, and he and the widow try to disguise the crime, and they get away with it, but they separate, and later, they finally reunite) starring Gloria Swanson, Mahlon Hamilton, Russell Simpson, Lillian Leighton, Lincoln Stedman, Thena Jasper, and Clarence Ford. Note that this was based on a 1906 novel "The Shulamite" (a Shulamite was a person in the Bible in The Song of Songs). It was soon adapted into a very popular play and the first silent movie was made from it in 1915, called "The Folly of Desire", and in 1921, this second silent movie was made, again with a new title, with Gloria Swanson in the lead role. Finally, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned three lobby cards from this movie, and one of those cards has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still only one of three cards we have ever auctioned! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. The card was folded down the middle. There is a tack hole with circular stains in each corner. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
