HYDE French LC 1932 Fredric March in makeup as Hyde menacing Miriam Hopkins! Date Sold 11/22/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1932 (from the first release of this movie in France) Vintage Theatrical French Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 9 1/4" x 11 1/2" [23 x 29 cm]) (Learn More) Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the 1931 Rouben Mamoulian double-personality fantasy monster horror thriller ("Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson") starring Fredric March (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in both title roles; he tied with Wallace Beery who won for The Champ), Miriam Hopkins, Rose Hobart, Holmes Herbert, Edgar Norton, and Halliwell Hobbes. Note that this movie premiered in New York City on New Year's Eve 1931, and then went into general release in the U.S. in 1932. So except for that one night, it is a 1932 movie, but because it is always identified as being from 1931, we also identify it that way! That also helps explain why there is movie paper dated 1933. It was a giant hit, and the movie was surely still in its first release into 1933, and more paper was printed as it was needed. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare first release French lobby card from this classic horror movie! 1930s French lobby cards are at least as rare as their U.S. counterparts, likely because of the immense paper shortages in France during World War II (we have only auctioned four French lobby cards in total for this movie in all of our years of auctioning (and the last time was in 2016!). Note that this French lobby card measures 9 1/4" x 11 1/2" [23 x 29 cm]. Condition: good to very good. The card has a tiny pinhole in each corner and in the center of the upper and lower borders, with faint scuffs scattered throughout the card, but they are mostly only noticeable when the card is tilted to the light. There are a few smudges around the edges. The rare card is otherwise in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
