An Original Vintage Movie Script (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm], 138 pages) (Learn More) Mighty Joe Young, the classic 1949 Ernest B. Schoedsack fantasy animal gorilla ape thriller ("Striking! Startling! Staggering!"; "Merian Cooper's amazing adventure in the unusual!"; "Staggering sensation! Electrifying excitement!"; "The ten most terrific thrills ever pictured"; "The cyclonic cavalcade of electrifying sensations that makes your eyes pop out and your heart skip a beat!"; produced by John Ford & Merian C. Cooper; with special effects by Ray Harryhausen, in his first movie, and "Technical Creator Willis O'Brien", creator of King Kong!) starring Terry Moore, Ben Johnson, Robert Armstrong, Frank McHugh, Douglas Fowley, Paul Guilfoyle, Nestor Paiva, and Pat Barton. Note that Ray Harryhausen was sadly not given any credit on the posters for this movie, likely because he was unknown at this time, but Willis O'Brien was credited, no doubt in the hopes that people would remember him from King Kong! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this script is the revised draft from August 20, 1947 and the screenplay was written by Ruth Rose. Also note that the script has the working title "Mr. Joseph Young of Africa", but the movie ultimately was called "Mighty Joe Young". Also note that there are a multitude of pink and blue revision pages from many different dates from between 9/30/47 and 12/3/47. In addition, there are many pages that have red or black pencil markings on them, indicating that even more revisions were made after the above revisions (apparently this script was revised over and over, which must have driven the actors crazy!). The first interior page has a form that was to be signed by the person receiving the script and it had perforations in the bottom one-third of that page (and they are true perforations, and NOT a photocopied page). This was the way the studio kept track of who had these scripts! Condition: very good. The cover has a 3" tear in the middle left, in the blank area, and there are tiny tears in the right edge of the cover. The cover page was once separated from the rest of the script and someone put tape on the three holes in the front and back covers, and then reassembled the script, and they also put tape on the back of the tear on the front cover. The script was also lightly folded down the middle at one time. Otherwise, the script is in pretty nice condition (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
