An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, the classic 1958 Alfred Hitchcock San Francisco California suspense obsessive love crime mystery thriller ("Alfred Hitchcock's Masterpiece"; "Based upon the novel D'Entre Les Morts by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac"; "Music by Bernard Herrmann"; about a man with a fear of heights who is caught up in a murder, or is he?, and he meets a woman who looks very similar to the "dead girl", and he becomes obsessed with solving the mystery) starring James Stewart (Jimmy Stewart), Kim Novak (in a dual role), Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, and Henry Jones. Note that John Whitney Sr. (who did the spiral title sequence for the movie) also did the spiral art for the posters from this movie, which was utilized by the poster artist Saul Bass. Also note that Alfred Hitchcock did not make a final decision on what to name this movie until the last minute! At various times, it had working titles of Darkling I Listen, Fear and Trembling, From Among the Dead, and Illicit Darkening. Many of the early advertising stills don't have a title at all, but say "An Alfred Hitchcock Production". Personally, we think "Vertigo" is a better title than any of those other four! Finally, note that critical acclaim for this movie has consistently risen in the years since it was first released. In fact, in the 2012 "Sight and Sound" poll of top movie critics, Vertigo was declared to be the number one film of all time, over Citizen Kane, and every other masterpiece! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Saul Bass Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. This means the poster was backed onto a board backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Condition: very good. prior to paperbacking, the poster had many creases, smudges, and some small tears and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster with smudges down the right edge of the top half of the poster (extending into the orange background); there were extra creases along the folds. The restorer did not want to repaint the entire orange background area, so you can still see signs of the smudges in the right edge of the orange image and the border next to it (and some slight smudges around the edges of the orange background). The poster is nicer than the above makes it sound! I much prefer this sort of restoration, where you can still see the restoration from inches away, because it means that the poster has not been "dipped in paint" in order to make the restored areas indistinguishable from the rest, because this sort of restoration means there is far less paint on the poster (in the case of this poster, the only way to eliminate the smudges from the top right orange background would have been to spray paint the entire orange background). This poster looks great from any distance away (although you can see slight signs of the restoration from a distance), and I would think most collectors would be quite happy to display this great poster on their wall!
