An Original Vintage Theatrical French Movie Campaign Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 1/2" [24 x 32 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More)

Sofar Film 1929-30, the 1929 French campaign book showcasing actors, actresses, directors, and films to be released by Sofar Film studio in 1929 and 1930. Some of the films include: Prix De Beaute (starring Louise Brooks), White Hell of Pitz Palu (titled as "Prisonniers de la Montagne", and directed by G.W. Pabst and Arnold Fanck), Anny De Montparnasse, Macarade D'Amour, and other films. Note that it is difficult to find exact information about Sofar-Film, but it seems to have been a French film production company that made some movies by itself, and co-produced others with other companies, including German ones. This campaign book, the only one we have ever seen from Sofar-Film, has a list of locations on the inside back cover, which give six addresses in France. If anyone knows more about this company, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Important Added Info: Note that very few pre-World War II French studio yearbooks survive (surely due to the paper shortages in World War II). This one is of really special interest, both due to the inclusion of Louise Brooks' "Prix De Beaute", and there are two great pages for her, one with a classic photo, and the other with a great artwork image by Cecchetto (and there is a small image of her on the title page!), and also due to the inclusion of "White Hell of Pitz Palu", with the working title, which was directed by G.W. Pabst and Arnold Fanck. We have never seen this fascinating campaign book before!

Condition: very good. The cover has a gold background and there are many smudges and stains in parts of that area. There are some blue ink stains in the bottom center of the title page. Otherwise, the book is in really nice condition!
