An Original Vintage Calendar (measures 16" x 33 1/2" [41 x 85 cm]) (Learn More) Earl Moran was a pin-up and glamour artist from the 1930s to the 1980s. Moran signed an exclusive contract with Brown and Bigelow in 1932, and by 1937 his pinups had sold millions of calendars for the company. In 1940, Life ran a feature article entitled "Speaking of Pictures" which mostly focused on Moran's work and made him a celebrity. In 1946, Moran moved to Hollywood and soon after his arrival, he interviewed a young starlet named Norma Jeane Dougherty who wanted to model for him. For the next four years, Marilyn Monroe posed for Moran and the two became friends. Some of the celebrities he painted include: Betty Grable, Joan Crawford, and of course Marilyn Monroe. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 90. Artist: Earl Moran Important Added Info: Note that many companies made "racy" calendars in the 1940s and 1950s, but few survive, and the few that do are almost always smaller sized (around window card size or smaller). This calendar measures 16" x 33 1/2", and it has wonderful Earl Moran art of Marilyn Monroe, and is the only example of this calendar we have ever auctioned! Condition: very good. The calendar has minor wear around the edges and some faint scuffs in the black background, but it has likely survived in as good condition as one could possibly hope.
