An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Cecil B. DeMille's Cleopatra, the 1934 Cecil B. DeMille historical ancient Egypt romantic love triangle desert epic ("'The Siren of the Nile'... Most famous woman of love who ever lived!"; "A love affair that shook the world, set in a spectacle of thrilling magnificence!"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Claudette Colbert (in the title role as Cleopatra), Warren William (as Julius Caesar), Henry Wilcoxon (as Marc Antony), Joseph Schildkraut (as King Herod), Ian Keith (as Octavian), C. Aubrey Smith, Gertrude Michael (as Calpurnia), Arthur Hohl (as Brutus), Edwin Maxwell (as Casca), Ian Maclaren (as Cassius), and David Niven (in his third role, uncredited in a bit part as a slave!). Note that there had been a 1917 silent version of this movie with Theda Bara in the leading role, and it was remade in 1963 with Elizabeth Taylor (and, of course, there have been many other depictions of Cleopatra in movies all through the years). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that if one were to compile a "short list" of the finest movie poster images from major films of the 1930s, THIS poster would surely be near the top of the list! There is also a style B one-sheet for this movie that oddly has three headshots of the stars down the left, and very little imagery in the rest of the poster. We have auctioned that much lesser style B one-sheet only one time two years ago for $6,305, and we have only twice before ever auctioned this magnificent style A one-sheet, and those were 7 years ago, when it auctioned for $17,200, and 27 years ago, when it auctioned for $12,650. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thin paper backing, it can be sent rolled (however, it will be rolled with the image outward, because paperbacked posters should always be rolled that way, while linen posters are always rolled with the image inward), and it will likely need to be sent in a 6" tube, because rolling it more tightly might damage the poster. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had very minor fold wear and the colors of the poster are extremely bright and fresh. It had a few faint stains in the bottom left corner in the border design area. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to paperbacking. Someone had the poster paperbacked with no excess, likely by a museum restorer who paperbacks poster in a "minimalist" fashion. It was done solely for conservation and not for restoration. The faint staining in the bottom left corner is still there, but otherwise, the poster is in remarkable condition, and will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall!
