WNEW AM 1130, the 1980s radio posters ("Blessed with America's Best") featuring artwork of Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, and Peggy Lee. WNEW was founded in 1934 and was known for its popular adult music selection as well as its staff of radio personalities. In 1935, WNEW pioneered the concept of a disc jockey when staff announcer Martin Block needed to fill time between news bulletins, and played records instead of the usual live orchestra. The station shut down in 1992.
