An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures approximately 3" x 4") (Learn More) Civilization, the classic 1916 Thomas H. Ince silent anti-war religious fantasy melodrama ("Thos H. Ince's Million Dollar Spectacle"; "The Greatest Production of Modern Times"; it is an allegory about a king in an unnamed country, who has a submarine, and he orders the count in charge of it to sink an enemy ship, and the count refuses, and sinks the submarine instead, and he survives, but in limbo between life and death, where he meets Jesus in the flesh, who tells him to return to the living and preach peace, which he does, and that causes him to be sentenced to death, but then Jesus appears again!; it has been suggested that this film helped to get Woodrow Wilson re-elected as president because it reinforced his campaign promises to keep the United States out of World War I) starring Howard C. Hickman, Enid Markey, Lola May, Kate Bruce, J. Frank Burke, and George Fisher NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: It appears this slide was re-used, and when it was re-used, the original play dates at the bottom of the slide no longer applied, so someone opened the slide and apparently burned away the very bottom play dates area. Because this was done sloppily, it damaged the bottom of the "IVI" at the left of the title, and also the "COMING HERE ON" below the title. The actual image and the rest of the title were not affected, and other than this odd defect, the slide is in good condition. Glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). We have taken a digital photo of each that shows the general condition of the overall slide and holder, and we have also made a digital scan that shows the glass image well, but does not show the holder (except as a dark outline). Condition: good. This glass slide has clear condition problems that causes it to be in less than "very good" condition. We do NOT describe those defects in words (UNLESS the defect is a crack in one or both panes of the glass, in which case we ALWAYS describe it elsewhere within the auction in words), and you can likely see some or all of them in the "large" and "super-sized" images we provide. If you are the sort who can accept a major defect, then you should bid on items in this condition grade, BUT PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THESE ITEMS UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THEIR VERY CLEAR DEFECTS!
