His second term was marred by the Watergate scandal, and facing almost certain impeachment and removal from office, he became the first American president to resign (he was later pardoned for any crimes by President Ford). He was later the subject of the movies Nixon and more recently Frost/Nixon. Nixon passed away in 1994 at the age of 81. Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Richard Nixon! It is a photo of Nixon at the 1972 Republican National Convention that is attached to a mat that has printed information at the bottom (and a date stamp on the back of "23 AG 72" and a faded photographer's stamp above that). Apparently, the organizers of the convention sent these to the top donors to the Republican Party. The question is whether or not this was hand signed by Richard Nixon or signed by his secretary. Since it is personalized to Altovise Davis, who was Sammy Davis Jr.'s wife in 1972, we would think that it would be personally signed by President Nixon, and the autograph does closely resemble actual signatures of Nixon's. However, we leave it to the bidders to determine if they believe this to be authentic before placing a bid on it. Our consignor is a longtime dealer who acquired this signed item among many other purchases in his inventory, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but we believe the signature to likely be authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. Condition: good to very good. The matted item was displayed and the photograph has discolored, and there is slight darkening around the edges of the photo and the edges of the mat (see our image).
