An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Newsreel Movie Poster (23x32; measures 22 3/4" x 31" [58 x 79 cm]) (Learn More)

Veille D'Attaque (literally translates to "Eve of Attack"), the 1945 English World War II (WWII) documentary newsreel short created by the Ministry of Information. It would seem likely that this newsreel was made after France was liberated, and that it likely portrays the D-Day invasion that occurred on June 6, 1944. They likely made posters advertising the newsreel and displayed them in France wherever the newsreel was shown. If anyone knows more about this newsreel, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Claire Finel
Important Added Info: Note that this remarkable poster, which we have never auctioned before, is surely incredibly rare. It was consigned to us from the owner of the amazing collection of political and war posters which we auctioned on November 19, 2017. He "held back" a few of his most rare and most interesting posters, but he has now consigned those remaining ones to us, and they are being auctioned in this December Major Auction (and this is one of them). It is likely that this poster and the others can only be found in museum collections (if they can be found at all), and this is a very rare opportunity to obtain this poster.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had some tiny bits of surface paper loss and slight darkening on both folds, with a few tiny tears. It had tiny pinholes in the corners. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
