Date Sold 12/15/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 6 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Shadow of Silk Lennox, the 1935 Ray Kirkwood & Jack Nelson crime melodrama starring Lon Chaney Jr. (in the title role as John Arthur 'Silk' Lennox), Dean Benton, Marie Burton, Jack Mulhall, Eddie Gribbon, Larry McGrath, and Allen Greer. Note that Lon Chaney Jr. did not like living in the shadow of his ultra successful father, Lon Chaney Sr., and he did not appear in movies during his father's lifetime. After his father passed away in 1930, Chaney started appearing in movies under his real name of Creighton Chaney, without much success. In 1935, a producer convinced him that it would pay off royally if he would change his name to Lon Chaney Jr., and under that name, he starred in this movie, the first time he received this billing! But that did not lead to much better roles until 1939, when he played Lenny in "Of Mice and Men", and received fantastic reviews. But once again, his career did not take off, until he starred in "The Wolf Man" in 1941, and that led to a very successful series of Universal horror movies! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper items from this first movie where Lon Chaney starred (as Lon Chaney Jr.) are incredibly rare. Prior to being consigned this set of 6 lobby cards, we had never been consigned ANY U.S. movie paper, and the only item we had ever seen from it was a Belgian poster! It might be many years before we are consigned even one more item! Condition: good. All the cards have brown paper tape on the back of two borders. All have smudges and scuffs scattered throughout, more so in the solid colored areas of the men's suits. Some have pinholes or tack holes in the borders. None have had any sort of restoration. Please look at our super-sized images before bidding on these cards. Obviously, one would prefer to find them in better condition, but given that we have never before seen even one card, it might be a long wait before even one more card surfaces.
