A Linenbacked Belgian Museum Art Exhibition Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 40" [62 x 102 cm]) (Learn More)

Royal Museum for Central Africa (Koninklijk Museum voor Midden-Afrika or Musee Royal de l'Afrique Centrale) is an ethnography and natural history museum located in Tervuren, just outside Brussels, Belgium. The original building was built to showcase King Leopold II's Congo Free State in the 1897 World Exhibition. A new building was officially opened by King Albert I in 1910 and named the Museum of the Belgian Congo and in 1952, the adjective "Royal" was added. In 1960, following the independence of the Congo, the museum's name was changed to its current title: the Royal Museum for Central Africa.
Artist: Jean van Noten
Important Added Info: Note that this Belgian museum poster (which was made in the 1950s, between 1952 and 1959, when the name of the museum was the "Royal Museum of Belgian Congo") has really striking art of a devil's flower mantis (one of the largest species of praying mantis). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It had a 2 1/2" tear in the lower right blank border and some minor border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good to fine condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
