Date Sold 12/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original 1946 (from the first release of this movie in Spain) Vintage Theatrical Spanish Movie Herald (measures 4 3/4" x 6 3/4" [12 x 17 cm]) (Learn More) Casablanca, the classic 1942 Michael Curtiz (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) anti-Nazi World War II (WWII) romantic love triangle melodrama ("From a play by Murray Burnett and June Alison"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award; it is interesting to note that the movie was made while World War II was being fought, and at a point when it seemed very real that Germany might take over the entire world, and in that context, the strong emotions expressed throughout the movie are all the more poignant, given what was going on in the world at that time) starring Humphrey Bogart (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as "Rick", Richard Blaine), Ingrid Bergman (as Ilsa Lund), Paul Henreid (as Victor Laszlo), Claude Rains (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film; as Captain Renault), Conrad Veidt (as Major Strasser), Sydney Greenstreet (as Signor Ferrari), Peter Lorre (as Ugarte), S.Z. Sakall (as Carl), Dooley Wilson (as Sam), Madeleine LeBeau (as Yvonne), Leonid Kinskey (as Sascha), John Qualen (as Berger), Marcel Dalio (as Emil, the croupier at the roulette wheel), Corinna Mura (as the cabaret singer who plays the guitar and sings "La Marseillaise"), Helmut Dantine (as the young man playing roulette), and Joy Page (as Dantine's girlfriend, who is willing to sleep with Rains) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that in addition to the regular Spanish herald created for this movie, special heralds were created that were "faux" passports of the lead stars (we know that there was one created for Ingrid Bergman and one for Paul Henreid, and there may or may not have been others created as well). The "passport" has a picture of Ingrid Bergman, and she is NOT named with her character name in the movie (Ilsa Lund), but rather her own name, and instead of simply "Ingrid Bergman", it is written as "Ingrid Bergman Lindstrom", which was her full married name at the time! There is a date on the passport of March 17, 1942, which is several months from before the movie was released anywhere, and we are not sure why that would be. We have only previously auctioned one example of this special Ingrid Bergman "passport" style Spanish herald (it sold for $549), but we have seen another auction that sold the Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid ones as a pair, and those reportedly sold together for $7,800! If anyone knows more about these special heralds, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: fair to good. There is much staining scattered throughout, but fortunately not on Bergman's image. Obviously, this can be restored, but bear in mind the staining and look at our super-sized images before bidding.
