A Linenbacked Italian Newspaper Advertising Poster (measures 26 1/4" x 38" [67 x 97 cm]) (Learn More) La Tribuna (literally translates to "The Tribune") was an Italian daily newspaper founded in Rome in 1883 by politicians Alfredo Baccarini and Giuseppe Zanardelli. In the following years, the paper established itself as the first newspaper of the capital and of central Italy. The wide use of the telegraph and the use of special correspondents contributed to the success of the newspaper. In 1900, the newspaper reached the remarkable circulation of 200,000 copies, even higher than the average of the Milanese newspapers. In 1923, with the advent of the Mussolini regime, La Tribuna was taken over by a pro-fascist financial group. After the Liberation of Rome in 1944, publications of newspapers were suspended, and after a short-lived return in 1945, the paper closed in 1946 Artist: Giovanni Maria Mataloni Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had paper loss at the top right crossfold and some stains scattered in the upper left and upper right of the title, with some tears and tiny paper loss in the lampshade. It had minor wear on the folds and a few pinholes and tiny paper loss in the borders. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking.
