Note that the battle of Dien Bien Phu was the First Indo China War, which was between the French and the Vietnamese. Little did anyone know at that time that less than a decade later, the U.S. would get sucked into this conflict, and that it would cost tens of thousands of U.S. servicemen their lives and bitterly divide the United States and sway a presidential election!
