Circus, the circus poster encouraging people to visit a traveling circus and featuring classic circus-themed art! The Cole Bros. Circus was founded in 1884 by William Washington Cole. In the 1930s and 1940s, the circus often worked with noted animal trainer and actor Clyde Beatty (who owned his own show). In 1957, investors merged the two into the Clyde Beatty - Cole Bros. Circus and the show became a major player in the circus industry for over 20 years. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: UPDATED 04/15/2011: Note that a knowledgeable collector pointed out that this poster is from the 1960s and NOT the circa 1940s as we initially listed. Condition: fair to good. The poster had creases, tears, and small paper loss in the edges. Someone mounted it to a piece of board, but they did not do a very good job, because it is lifting from the board in scattered areas in the top. Someone cut the board from the back with a razor across the bottom 1", and then down the right 3" (which cut into the top of the front of the poster), and then they later taped over those areas on the back). The poster does not display that badly and it could be removed from the board and properly restored, but that might be costly. Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly re-restored! Learn More about condition grades
