eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 7z110 BELOW THE SAHARA 1sh '53 great giant ape image vs. tribesmen artwork! Date Sold 6/23/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Below the Sahara, the 1953 Armand Denis African desert expedition safari jungle adventure documentary ("SEE... Leopard attack on man! Baby-snatching gorillas! Battle of giant elephants! Cheetahs trained to hunt! Hippo bulls in combat! The ostrich rodeo! Penguin Playground! And plenty more!") narrated by Armand Denis. Note that Armand Denis had explored Africa and India in the 1930s with his wife Leila Roosevelt, and had produced and directed many short subjects with footage of their travels that he and his wife had shot themselves. In 1948, the 52 year-old Armand Denis divorced Roosevelt, and married 34 year-old Michaela Holdsworth, and together they made four movies (very similar to those he had made with his first wife). If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that it may just be my imagination, but it sure looks like the artist of this poster was greatly influenced by the image of "Mighty Joe Young" on the 1949 posters from that classic movie! Condition: good. There is light rippling and discoloration throughout the poster from exposure to moisture. There are some pinholes around the edges. Some of them are torn or enlarged due to rough removal. There is paper loss at upper right in the artwork. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
