An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style B Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Invasion of the Body Snatchers (released in Mexico as "The Body Snatchers"), the classic 1956 Don Siegel science fiction (sci-fi) horror alien invasion romantic thriller ("Walter Wanger creates the ultimate in science-fiction!"; "They come from another world!"; "Incredible! Invisible! Insatiable!"; "Something is happening! Send your men of science quick! The panic stricken cry went over the phone to Washington D. C. until the lines went dead!......."; "Colliers's Magazine called it 'The nightmare that threatens the world!'"; "Based on the Collier's Magazine Serial by Jack Finney"; about aliens invading Earth by replacing people with alien counterparts that grow as pods, and then take over the person's identity when the person falls asleep; one by one, a town is taken over, and the few remaining unaffected people try to stop them and get the word out, but they are stopped at every turn; most people see this as a thinly veiled parable of the activities of the House Un-American Activities Committee, which found "Communists" behind every door in Hollywood!; others protest that it greatly borrowed the plot of Robert A. Heinlein's "The Puppet Masters", which had been written five years before; ironically, when The Puppet Masters finally came to the screen in 1994, it was criticized for being a rip-off of this movie!) starring Kevin McCarthy, Dana Wynter ("Sensational star discovery of 'The View From Pompey's Head' ... Dana Wynter in the year's most startling role!"), Larry Gates, King Donovan, Carolyn Jones, Jean Willes, and Ralph Dumke NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the ad campaign for this classic movie was pretty uninspired, and just about every first release U.S. poster had an image of McCarthy and Wynter running, with a giant hand print in the background. It was only for this style B half-sheet poster that a different image was created, which shows McCarthy, Wynter, and others caught in spotlights from the skies! There is an unusual story behind how we came to be consigned this poster for this auction. Here's what happened: After we auctioned a War of The Worlds style B half-sheet (for $20,777), one of our consignors looked at his example of that poster on the wall (which he had framed over ten years before), and to his dismay, he realized it had faded over those ten years. Worse yet, he had it framed side-by-side with this Invasion of the Body Snatchers style B half-sheet (and he also had a framed half-sheet of "The Thing" on that same wall), and all three had faded (the framer he had used was an expensive one, and they had assured him that they had used high quality UV Plexiglas, but they had saved money by using non UV instead). After it completely sunk in what had happened, he thought it would make sense to consign both of them to us, so that he could put the sad affair out of his mind (the framer who did not use UV glass is out of business, so he has no one to sue). While the reds in this poster have indeed faded to where they are now a light orange, the poster still displays well, and it will be up to our bidders to determine how much of a detraction this defect is (and this really IS a very rare poster!). Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster was never folded, and it had a 6" tear near the middle of the left border, running into the middle left background of the image. There were some creases, tears, smudges, and scuffs scattered in the image, with pinholes, smudges, tears, and tiny areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to paperbacking. As described above, the poster was nicely backed around a decade ago, but was framed on a wall in sunlight where the reds changed to pink or orange! So the purchaser of this poster has two options: They can leave the poster exactly as it is and display it and enjoy it! Or they can have a restorer change the orange and pink areas to their original red, which would require extensive paint restoration, but a talented professional can do so in such a way that few people would be aware of the extent of the restoration. Please consider all of the above (and study our super-sized image closely) BEFORE placing a bid on this rare and desirable poster! Learn More about condition grades
