An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 22 1/2" x 31 1/4" [57 x 79 cm]) (Learn More) Le Mepris (released in English-speaking countries as "Contempt"), the 1963 (released in the U.S. in 1964) Jean-Luc Godard French/Italian movie-making romantic love triangle melodrama ("Bardot is the body beautiful... she knows it... and she shows it!"; "Based on the novel by Alberto Moravia"; a very complex story about a screenwriter who is assigned by his producer to make a screenplay of "The Odyssey" more commercial, and he has a beautiful young wife who believes he wants her to sleep with the producer to help his career) starring Brigitte Bardot, Jack Palance, Michel Piccoli, Fritz Lang, and Giorgia Moll. Note that the director of the movie-within-the-movie is identified as Fritz Lang, and the legendary director plays himself! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Georges Allard Important Added Info: Note that this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this partially French movie, is the rare first release poster from 1963 (there is a very similar re-release from the 1970s, and several more re-releases over the following years, all of which use this same classic image, which is why it is likely familiar to you)! This first release poster is extremely desired by collectors and sells for large sums of money (the last time we auctioned it was in 2016 and it auctioned for $1,000). Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good to very good. The poster has a few pinholes in each corner and there is a blue ink pad stamp on back at upper left that very slightly bleeds through to the front (just under Godard's credit, but as can be seen in our image, it is not very noticeable or distracting). The poster has a circular sticker in the lower right corner (put there by a different distributor). The poster displays pretty well and one could choose to have the sticker easily removed by a professional or talented amateur, or, after a very simple linenbacking (at which time the sticker would also be removed) the poster will look fantastic!
