Originally a family-run ribbon manufacturer, Franz established a shoemaking business after visiting Paris, where he was inspired when buying novel shoe styles for his wife. Subsequently, the Bally & Co. shoe company was launched from his home, and by 1916, the company had 7000 employees and was producing four million pairs of shoes annually. Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had some small tears and tiny paper loss on parts of the folds, with a 6" diagonal tear in the lower part of the right shoe, and many smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
