An Autographed Contract (measures 8 1/2" x 22" [22 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Stella Adler was an actress from the 1930s to the 1940s. She was part of one of the most famous Jewish acting families ever, which included her parents Jacob and Sarah Adler, and her brothers Charles, Jay, and Luther. She was one of the people involved in the founding of the Group Theatre in 1931, and later married Harold Clurman, one of the founders. According to Marlon Brando, she was obsessed with becoming a traditional Hollywood leading lady, and had a nose job in 1937, and began acting under the name "Stella Ardler" in "Love On Toast", but she did not achieve the success in Hollywood she so wanted, and she pretty much quit acting in movies after that, except for a few minor roles. She became an acting teacher and was a mentor to the very young Marlon Brando, and was one of the early proponents of "The Method", a revised acting technique derived from, but different from, the method used at the Group Theatre in the 1930s. Adler passed away in 1992 at the age of 91. Important Added Info: Note that this item (which is a contract between Stella Adler and United States Pictures about My Girl Tisa when it had the working title Ever the Beginning) has been personally autographed (signed) by Stella Adler! In addition to the contract, there are three attached addenda which Miss Adler initialed. Note that our consignor has been a memorabilia dealer for the past 30 years, and he tells us that he is certain this autograph is authentic. In some cases he obtained the autographs in person, and in other cases (like with contracts and agreements), it is obvious the signatures are authentic, but he vouches for the authenticity of every item that he has consigned to us, and we also feel certain that the autographs are authentic.
