An Original Vintage Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 28" x 41 1/2" [71 x 105 cm]) (Learn More) The Prodigal Judge, the 1922 Edward Jose silent family relationship kidnapping romantic melodrama ("Adapted from the world-famous novel by Vaughn Kester"; a wild story about a judge and former member of Congress in 1830, who returns to his home in North Carolina, and discovers that his wife has taken his child and run off with another man; that causes the man to search for his missing son, and he is reduced to becoming a hobo, and travels with a fellow hobo; they finally locate the missing wife and son, and it turns out they were actually kidnapped, and after many adventures, the judge challenges the kidnapper to a duel, and his best friend hobo takes his place, and is killed in the duel, after which the judge shoots the kidnapper, and he regains his lost fortune!) starring Jean Paige, Ernest Torrence (as the hobo best friend of the judge), Macklyn Arbuckle (in the title role as Judge Slocum Price), Earle Foxe, Arthur Edmund Carewe, Horace Braham, and Charles Kent. There is a major oddity about this movie! The actor who plays the title role and appears to be the actual star of the movie is Macklyn Arbuckle (see below for more on him). But the only movie advertising we have seen on this movie shows Ernest Torrence being billed above the title, and Macklyn Arbuckle is barely pictured! Torrence was a far bigger name in movies at this time, and he does play an important role, but it still seems very odd that the movie would be presented in this way! Note that star Macklyn Arbuckle was a cousin of Roscoe 'Fatty' Arbuckle. He was mainly a stage actor who only appeared in 18 movies. He was very successful on the stage, and in one of his greatest stage successes, "The Roundup", the phrase was coined "Nobody loves a fat man", and when a film was made of the play, Fatty Arbuckle played the lead, and that tagline was used on the one-sheet. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a VERY unusual poster! The studios at this time would often create a "rotogravure" one-sheet for each movie (in addition to a full-color one-sheet), but this rotogravure poster has completely different poster images on both sides (thus surely making it one of the first "double-sided" posters, although it is of course not double-sided in the modern way). Our best guess is that it might have been a "test" poster, where they printed both versions and sent them to people who chose which version they preferred, or perhaps it was a test of the two versions and then they later printed each separately (we have never seen any example of ANY one-sheet from this movie, so we don't know if these versions were used or unused!). Also note that this poster was tri-folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair. The poster was tri-folded at one time. It has many stains and tears around the edges, with paper loss in one corner that very slightly affects the background on one side. It has some faint smudges and stains scattered throughout. Certainly, the poster needs to be restored, but one might decide how to go about that, given that there are complete images on both sides (see above). Learn More about condition grades
