An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Tillie's Punctured Romance, the 1928 A. Edward Sutherland silent circus screwball comedy (produced by Al Christie; about the ringmaster of a circus, played by W.C. Fields, who schemes to get the owner of the circus into the lion cage, so he will be killed and the ringmaster will take over, and later, he ends up using the circus animals to help the troops in World War I!) starring W.C. Fields, Chester Conklin, Louise Fazenda (in the title role as Tillie), Mack Swain, Doris Hill, and Babe London (a large heavyset woman who was very typecast in comedy roles involving large women). Note that this movie bears no relation to the 1914 Charlie Chaplin movie of the same name, but because this movie is a "lost movie" (no known examples of it exist), it is often mistakenly described as a remake, when all the two movies have in common is the same name. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this poster, and it has now been reconsigned to us, so this is still the only example of this poster we have ever auctioned! Not only that, but we have only auctioned a single lobby card and some stills, and NO other posters of any kind! Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time. We want to send it in a large flat package, because, while the poster has not lost its folds, it was not folded evenly, so it would still require a package that measures approximately 14" x 17", even if it is folded. We would definitely not want to roll it, given its age and value. But we will send it any way the new owner desires. Condition: very good. The poster was folded once in each direction, but the folds are not exactly across the center. There are tiny creases and scuffs on both foldlines. There is a 1 1/2" tear in the right end of the horizontal fold, entirely in the white background area. There is also a 1" tear in the lower right blank border and 1/2" of separation at the right end of the horizontal fold. There are some pinholes, faint smudges, and tiny areas of paper loss and surface paper loss around the edges of the poster, but entirely in the blank white borders. There is a thin line of darkening in the extreme top edge of the right of the top blank border, and some faint smudges in the white background areas. Other than the above, the poster is in pretty nice condition, and it is not at all fragile, and the colors are vibrant, especially surprising since there are a lot of reds in the poster, which normally are quite quick to fade. Since the defects are almost entirely in the blank borders, I would think most collectors would happily display it just as it is, or certainly, it would be a simple restoration job for a restorer to correct the above minor defects, without putting hardly any paint within the image area.
