Auction History Result 3s0599 LOT OF 2 DEVIL'S BROTHER LAUREL AND HARDY 8X10 STILLS 1933 great scenes from Fra Diavolo! Date Sold 3/8/2020 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. a lot of 2 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" stills from The Devil's Brother. The stills in this lot have a MOST unusual origin. They were found in a Texas movie theater in 1972, when the theater was being torn down. There were stills glued to boards that were displayed on one of the walls of the theater. Our consignor "rescued" these stills (and others, which we are auctioning in other bulk lots) by cutting them from the board. The stills have been trimmed (see our images). Obviously, the new owner of these could have them removed from the heavy boards they are glued to, or one could display them as they are. Either way, bear in mind this unusual defect BEFORE bidding on this lot of stills. Of course, The Devil's Brother (also released as "Fra Diavolo") is the 1933 Hal Roach & Charley Rogers 17th century Italy romantic bandit musical comedy ("From The famous Comic Opera 'Fra Diavolo' by Auber"; also produced by Hal Roach; about a famed Italian bandit, who poses as a nobleman in order to get close to rich people and then rob them; Stan and Ollie join with the bandit, with outrageous comic results!) starring Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy (Laurel and Hardy), Dennis King (in the title role as "Fra Diavolo"), Thelma Todd, James Finlayson, Lucile Browne, Arthur Pierson, and Darla Hood (the future Our Gang member, when she was just 18 months old!). Measurements: 7 1/2" x 9 1/2"Condition: fair to good. Many years ago, the stills were trimmed and each glued to a heavy board (see above). No one has performed any restoration, but it could be done, or they could be displayed as they are. However, bear in mind these defects before bidding.
