An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Foreign Devils, the 1927 W.S. Van Dyke silent China Boxer Rebellion military war melodrama (about an attache at the American Embassy in Peking during the Boxer Rebellion, and he not only saves a pretty Englishwoman, but he pretty much defeats the rebels single-handedly!) starring Tim McCoy, Claire Windsor, Cyril Chadwick, Frank Currier, and Emily Fitzroy. Note that director W.S. Van Dyke had gotten his start as an assistant on D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" in 1916, and the following year, he was a director of many movies. He directed many westerns and other movies throughout the 1920s, and in 1928, he got his second big break when he helped Robert Flaherty direct "Shadows in the South Seas", and the following year, he was signed by MGM to make "Trader Horn", but it took two years to complete due to all the complications of location filming. The following year, he directed "Tarzan the Ape Man", and the huge success of that movie made him one of the top directors of the 1930s. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster comes from a collection that was consigned to us of window cards, inserts, and half-sheets, ALL of which are in MUCH lesser condition (as is immediately evident from looking at the images of these posters). But many of these posters are from early 1930s titles where it is next-to-impossible to find a better condition example of these posters! Obviously, the cost of restoration of these posters will vary greatly depending on the extent of the defects, so please carefully study our super-sized image of each item BEFORE you place a bid. Also, know that normally we allow returns of any item, but because all of these items are in MUCH lesser condition, we will NOT accept returns of this item, so bear that in mind as well before placing a bid. Condition: poor. The poster has staining scattered throughout and some paper loss in the borders. There are two long diagonal tears in the bottom center of the poster. The poster is quite fragile.
