Date Sold 7/26/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 16 3/4" [36 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) Rose of Washington Square, the 1939 Gregory Ratoff New York City biographical romantic musical ("Song by song... scene by scene... the thrill grows greater"; "Music and Lyrics by Gordon and Revel, Hanley and MacDonald"; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck) starring Tyrone Power Jr., Alice Faye (in the title role as Rose Sargent), Al Jolson, William Frawley, Joyce Compton, Hobart Cavanaugh, Louis Prima, and Moroni Olsen. "Everybody" in Hollywood knew that this was actually a biography of Fanny Brice and gambler Nicky Arnstein, and Brice herself sued 20th Century Fox for defamation of character, and the case was settled out of court. Years later of course, two movies would be based on Brice's life, "Funny Girl" and "Funny Lady", with Barbra Streisand, and Omar Sharif in the lead roles. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 16 3/4" [36 x 43 cm]. Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: fair to good. The window card originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this was commonly done with window cards, when the top had been left blank, or when someone had hand-scrawled play date information in that area). There are tears in the upper left border, with paper loss in the left blank border to the left of that area, and surface paper loss in the middle of the "W" of "WASHINGTON". Someone put tape on the back of that area. There are drip water stains in the top right and some nail holes, stains, and smudges around the edges. Obviously, it can be restored, but bear in mind its current condition and the expense of restoration before placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
