A Vintage Hardcover Book (measures 6 1/2" x 9 1/4" [17 x 23 cm]; 1070 pages) (Learn More)

1940-41 International Motion Picture Almanac, the 1940 Terry Ramsaye reference book with information and statistics from all facets of the film industry. Included is the comprehensive list of actors and actresses and their credits. Also included are detailed lists of industry personnel and production companies as well as much information about distribution. Note that this yearbook was part of the series of Motion Picture Almanacs that were published starting in the 1920s (the earliest one we have seen is from 1929). In 1937, they added a second volume on non-U.S. movies, called "International Motion Picture Almanac". In 1952, they added coverage of television to the main volume, and the title became "Motion Picture and Television Almanac". In 1959, they split each volume into two, one book that focused solely on movies, and the other focused solely on television, and the titles reflected that. Finally, keeping up with the times, the television almanac became "Television and Video Almanac" in 1988! Also note that very clever poster dealers have used these yearbooks to find out exactly where there were movie theaters in their area (and the surrounding states) and they have contacted the former owners of those theaters (or their heirs), and have found many great finds of movie posters in that way! Of course, we can't guarantee that will work for YOU, but it sure seems worth a try!
Important Added Info: Note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, the title page, and one or more interior 2-page spreads.

Note that we are currently auctioning 227 different movie hardcover books (actually, there are more than this, because there are a few that contain more than one book). This is a pretty amazing collection! Almost all of them "coffee table books", meaning that they are oversized, and contain a lot of illustrations (sometimes with many color ones), and most have lavish bindings and cool full-color dust jackets! Many of these sold for $25 to $50 (or more) when they were first published, and many are very difficult to locate today! Yet, we are auctioning all of these with no reserve and a $1 start price, so there may be many bargains to be had, even on some really scarce books, some of which likely contain information that can be found nowhere else. Please bear in mind that some of these books are written in another language, but the ones we have included are heavily illustrated, so they are still of interest even if you don't speak that language. Finally, note that we will charge the actual cost of shipping these books to the purchasers. In the U.S., we can send them via "book rate", but outside the U.S., there is no longer any kind of "surface mail", so bear the shipping expense in mind BEFORE placing bids on these books (most of them weight at least a couple of pounds, and there are quite a few of them that weigh 4 or 5 pounds each!).

Condition: very good. The book has some wear on the covers and on the outer edges of the pages.
