A Linenbacked Travel Poster (measures 30 1/4" x 39 3/4" [77 x 101 cm]) (Learn More)

American Airlines: New York World's Fair, the 1964 airplane airline aviation travel poster soliciting visitors to the 1964-65 New York World's Fair on American Airlines. There were many posters for this World's Fair, and most featured the Unisphere (sponsored by U.S. Steel), which was the most recognizable image from this World's Fair, and that some of the posters for this were created by noted movie poster artist Bob Peak, and others were created by Henry Benscathy. Note that the metal Unisphere, which was created by U.S. Steel for the World's Fair, still stands in Flushing, New York! Note that while the Fair took place in 1964 and 1965, this poster has a 1961 date, which could be the date that the poster was printed or simply the copyright date.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The left and right 1" of the poster was trimmed off. There was paper loss in the center of the bottom border, slightly extending into the background, with a 1" tear above it. Other than the above defects, the poster was in nice condition. The poster was well backed, and the restorer did a good job of replacing the missing left and right 1", but you can see slight signs of the restoration, and they did not replace the small amount of tiny writing at bottom right that was lost.
