An Unfolded Cuban Special Poster (measures 12" x 17" [30 x 43 cm]) (Learn More) OSPAAAL (The Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America) is a Cuban political movement with the stated purpose of promoting the causes of socialism and communism in the Third World, fighting globalization, imperialism, neoliberalism and defending human rights. OSPAAAL was founded in Havana in January 1966, after the Tricontinental Conference, a meeting of leftist delegates from several nations. Many of the posters created by OSPAAAL featured multiple languages so they could be used for international audiences, and they often came in copies of OSPAAAL's Tricontinental magazine. The U.S. embargo of Cuba and the fall of the Soviet Union eventually caused considerable difficulty in poster production, and it wasn't until the 2000s that production was able to increase again. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that silkscreen (also known as screen printing) is a printing technique whereby a mesh is used to transfer ink onto a poster. Only one color is printed at a time, so several screens must be used to produce a multicolored design, and it is a laborious technique because it is traditionally all done by hand. Because of the rich thickness of the layer of color on the paper and the resulting depth and brilliance achieved through silkscreen printing, this technique was preferred by many artists throughout many cultures and periods. Condition: very good to fine. The poster is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
