An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Three-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 41" x 81") (Learn More) Gow, the 1931 Edward A. Salisbury Papua New Guinea Aborigine headhunter adventure jungle documentary ("Beware!"; which apparently showed actual footage of real headhunters, who were apparently actual cannibals!) featuring Gow, and narrated by William Peck. Note that movie paper of any kind from this 1930s documentary appears to be impossible to find! The only item from this movie I have sold in the past 17 years was a 1950s re-release pressbook, in which the movie was re-titled, "Gow The Killer". I have been e-mailed that there was a silent 1928 documentary with a similar name, and it is possible that the 1931 movie is actually a re-edited version of that movie, but I doubt if anyone knows the full story, and it doesn't really matter which version this poster is from. I DO know that this one-sheet poster is one of the most striking poster images I have ever seen (I have also auctioned a three-sheet with a similar image), and given that it is a sort of teaser poster (given the complete lack of credits, or any information, other than the title), I feel certain this poster must have created quite a stir in 1931, where ever it was displayed. Note that we have only seen or heard of this one example of this poster, but we have auctioned this same example previously. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. This poster was linenbacked, and one of the following is true: either the poster had minor defects, and was well backed, OR it had more significant defects, but they were extremely well restored, OR it had some very minor defects that were not completely restored, and are somewhat noticeable. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "pre-restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had many creases, small tears, and tiny areas of paper loss on some foldlines, most notably on the vertical foldline that ran from the upper left of the image (between an area to the left of the man's eye down to the top of the "G" of "GOW". There were some creases, smudges, tears, and small paper loss around the edges of the poster. Note that there are "scuffs" in the letters of the title, but it seems likely that that is how the poster was printed, and that it is not a defect. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was really nicely backed, and looks great! Learn More about condition grades
