An Original Vintage German Movie Magazine (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 16 pages) (Learn More) Der Blaue Engel (simultaneously released in the U.S. as "The Blue Angel", there were English language and German language versions), the classic 1930 Josef von Sternberg German tragic romantic musical melodrama (about a well respected college professor who falls for a night club singer, and she is thrilled to have such an illustrious suitor, but he throws his career away to marry her, with disastrous consequences; from the novel by Heinrich Mann) starring Emil Jannings (as Professor Immanuel Rath), Marlene Dietrich (as Lola Lola), Kurt Gerron, Rosa Valetti, Hans Albers, and Reinhold Bernt. Note that we do not know if there are any differences in the cast between the German language and the English language version (we know that most of the actors were German, but that they performed the English language version themselves in heavily accented English). If anyone knows of any differences between the two versions of this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have been consigned an amazing group of original German programs from some of the best movies of the late 1920s and early 1930s, including German classics! We are auctioning each of them in their own auction. Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! It is a magazine that was published by Filmwoche (a German film magazine of that time), and it sold for 30 pfennigs. This magazine did this for some of the top movies of 1930 and 1931. It has an image of Emil Jannings on the cover and Marlene Dietrich on the back cover, and inside it has many images from the movie, some full page and some smaller, and it also has articles about the movie and even a page of sheet music from the film! We have never seen this magazine before. Note that only Emil Jannings is billed and pictured on the cover of this program, whereas Marlene Dietrich is also billed and shown on the regular program. This is likely because Emil Jannings was a much beloved star in Germany at this time, whereas Marlene Dietrich was pretty unknown, so likely the publisher of the magazine thought Jannings' image would sell more magazines! Condition: good to very good. The magazine was folded across the middle and there are creases and scuffs around the edges and some along the fold. The interior pages are in pretty nice condition!
