THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL 1sh '82 Steven Spielberg classic, iconic bike over moon image! Date Sold 12/13/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 26 3/4" x 40 1/2" [68 x 103 cm]) (Learn More) E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, the classic 1982 Steven Spielberg (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) science fiction (sci-fi) alien family fantasy melodrama ("His Adventure on Earth"; "He is afraid. He is totally alone. He is 3,000,000 light years from home."; "Written by Melissa Mathison"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, Henry Thomas ("as Elliott"), Drew Barrymore (in her second movie role!), and Robert MacNaughton NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that when this movie was first released, some 27" x 41" posters with the bike over the moon image were created and were personally distributed by Steven Spielberg only and are virtually impossible to find. Shortly after those were made, the studio created the 26 3/4" x 40 1/2" bike over the moon posters for the first regular release, and that is the poster we are offering here (and this style of poster is indeed difficult to find, much more difficult than the other styles created for this movie). Please bid knowing that this is the original 26 3/4" x 40 1/2" first general theatrical poster, but that it is NOT from the small run of posters personally distributed by Spielberg prior to these being printed! Please also note that that we know that there are many reproductions of this poster, and one of the ways to tell if it is an original is by the measurements. We want bidders to know that this poster is 100% original! For those who know the exact measurements of the original, know that we carefully measured the poster and confirm that it measures exactly 26 3/4" x 40 1/2" (reproductions are smaller), and that the top blank border measures 13/16" and that the bottom blank border measures 3/4", and that the left and right borders are 7/8". Please bid with confidence that this poster is 100% the original theatrical poster from 1982! Note that this is one of 113 unfolded one-sheets in this Part III of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction that were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson (we auctioned 993 of his folded one-sheets in Part I of this auction, and we will auction the last 200 or so of his folded one-sheets in Part IV). Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! As noted above, 113 of the unfolded one-sheets in this Part III come from this more remarkable collection. This is a very rare opportunity to purchase great unfolded one-sheets from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has tiny paper loss in the top right blank corner. It has scattered light creases down the right side of the image, beginning in the left of the tree. The creases are not very noticeable, except when the poster is tilted to the light. The poster could absolutely be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one could choose to have the above defects corrected through linenbacking. Either way, the new owner will have a great poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
