Anthony Adverse, the 1936 Mervyn LeRoy & Michael Curtiz 18th century Italy romantic love triangle adventure melodrama ("The biggest adventure between book covers becomes the greatest entertainment within theatre walls!"; from the novel by Hervey Allen; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; an epic story of a woman with an older husband and a younger lover; the husband kills the lover, but the woman is pregnant, and the husband leaves the baby at a convent, and when the baby grows up, he has many adventures of his own, including romantic ones) starring Fredric March (in the title role as Anthony Adverse), Olivia De Havilland, Anita Louise, Donald Woods, Claude Rains, Edmund Gwenn, Louis Hayward, Gale Sondergaard (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Steffi Duna, Billy Mauch, Akim Tamiroff, Ralph Morgan, Henry O'Neill, and George E.
