An Undated (probably 1930s) Re-Release Theatrical Linenbacked French "Affiche" Movie Poster (23x32; measures 23" x 32" [58 x 81 cm]) (Learn More) Jim Hackett... Champion, the 1928 Gabriel Rosca French silent romantic boxing sport comedy starring Fred Fua, Suzanna Talba, Charles Frank, Pierre Bayle, and Sita Dachary. We were unable to find out virtually anything about this movie, which is especially frustrating, because it looks like it might be pretty interesting, given that the artwork on the French poster we have seen has the boxer close up with many sexy girls in swimsuits behind him. We don't even know if Fred Fua played the title role (or if he was a world champion boxer or a champion of France), but this was his only movie, so he might well have been a professional boxer who was hired for this one movie. Apparently, this movie was filmed in 1928 as a silent, and apparently, it was distributed to theaters that year, but if so, we have never seen a movie poster from that 1928 silent release. We found information on the Internet that it had sound added and that it was revised and released in the 1930s, but we don't know exactly what year that was, but we would imagine the very early 1930s. The only movie paper on this title we have seen is a single French poster from the 1930s sound re-release (if indeed there was a 1928 silent release)! If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Artist: Pierre Pigeut Important Added Info: Note that, as noted above, this poster, which is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, is apparently from the 1930s sound re-release (see above). We auctioned it in 2014, and the person who bought it has re-consigned it to us, and it is still the only poster from this movie we have ever auctioned! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfold and some separation and just a few tiny tears on the foldlines. It had a few pinholes and tiny tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that at some point after linenbacking, the poster was roughly handled and there are now minor creases down the right edge of the border of the poster (in both the excess linen and the border of the poster, but not the image). This would diminish greatly if the poster were put under weight, and it would not show at all if the poster was framed. Learn More about condition grades
