An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #12 ("Atom Man Strikes") One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Atom Man vs. Superman, the 1950 Spencer Gordon Bennet comic book superhero serial ("Trapped by deadly fumes"; "Bomb of Death!"; "The Man of Steel strikes!"; "Blasted in the Sky!"; "Kryptonite renders Superman helpless!"; "High-tension death-trap!"; "Based on the Superman adventure feature appearing in Superman and Action Comics magazines coast to coast. Adapted from the Superman radio program."; based on the famous DC Comics comic book character) starring Kirk Alyn (in the title role as Superman/Clark Kent), Lyle Talbot (in the title role as Lex Luthor/The Atom Man), Noel Neill (who later repeated her role as Lois Lane in the TV series, after Phyllis Coates left the show), Tommy Bond (as Jimmy Olsen), Pierre Watkin (as Perry White), and Terry Frost. Note that this was the second Superman serial (the first was simply titled "Superman", and was released in 1948, with the same actors as in this serial). All of the posters from this serial were printed on a very low quality newsprint that darkened easily, and just about all of the posters that survive are quite yellowed, but this poster is much darker than the others I have seen. There was a semi-circular 7" tear in the top of the emblem on Superman's chest and two small circular areas of paper loss in his shoulder and the edge of his cheek a couple of inches above that area. There was a thin strip of paper loss running down the left of the "S" of "SUPERMAN" in the title and some tiny paper loss in the lower left of the "A" of "ATOM". There was a semi-circular area of paper loss at the top center of the poster extending into the top of the letters of "MAN" in "ATOM MAN". There were many small areas of paper loss across the right middle of the poster starting in the background area between Superman's leg and arm and extending to the right border, including some in the leg of the punching superman and some in the background above and below it. There was paper loss in the leg of Superman at the top of the inset image that extends into the top of the inset and paper loss at the bottom crossfold. There were some other tears and tiny areas of paper loss in various other parts of the image. The borders of the poster had many creases, stains, tears, and areas of paper loss. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, and you don't really have a sense of how much restoration the poster has had (overall, it has had a lot), but the great deal of darkening of the poster is definitely very noticeable. I would say this poster makes the most sense for someone who is likely to never want to spend the money that a better condition example would cost, and who can accept the many defects and restoration this poster has had.
