If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release one-sheets from this most classic movie are incredibly rare! Perhaps this is related to the movie being re-released in 1949, which would have used up most of the surviving first release paper. In any event, we auctioned a style A one-sheet in 1992, and after that, we did not auction another first release one-sheet until 2017, when we auctioned a style C one-sheet. Now, for the first time, we are auctioning this style B one-sheet, which means that after this auction, we will have auctioned one of each of the three styles one time each in all our years of auctioning, and that shows how incredibly rare first release one-sheets are! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss in all four borders that slightly extended into the background in several places, and there was a diagonal area of paper loss in the top right corner of the image, extending 2" into the yellow background at top right, and then continuing diagonally down to the right side of the yellow sign the person is holding (near the top of the crowd). There were also tears and areas of paper loss scattered down the center, and some along the other folds, with a few areas of paper loss scattered in the rest of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. A really talented restorer did a wonderful job repairing the above defects, working off of a high quality image taken of another example of the poster decades ago. While you can see slight signs of the defects the poster has had, virtually no one would realize the amount of restoration it has had, and the poster will display wonderfully on the new owner's wall. But please read all of the above carefully and look closely at our super-sized image to see how the poster displays now before bidding on this very rare and desirable poster.
