An Original Vintage 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] News Photo (Learn More)

The Road to Mandalay, the 1926 Tod Browning silent Asia Singapore romantic love triangle criminal gang crime melodrama ("Story by Tod Browning and Herman J. Mankiewicz"; "Titles by Joe Farnham"; about a former sea captain whose wife died during childbirth; he gave the child to his brother, a priest, to raise her, and he is now a brothel owner and a crook, and his daughter does not know that; he has a partner who is much more respectable, and the daughter falls in love with the partner, and that causes a falling out between the two men!) starring Lon Chaney Sr. (as Singapore Joe, the disfigured leader of the gang), Lois Moran, Owen Moore, Henry B. Walthall, Sojin, Rose Langdon, John George, Willie Fung, and Eddie Sturgis. Note that this is a partially "lost" film which means that no surviving complete copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that this news photo, which measures 7" x 9" [18 x 23 cm], has a snipe on the back that is dated 1932, and it also has a stamp on the back that is dated 1949, and a third stamp (over a tiny newspaper photo) that is dated 1952. This is because this photo was in a newspaper "morgue", and was reused several times. But we believe it to surely be an original still from 1926, that was reused during those three years, which is when it acquired the added snipe and stamps.

Condition: good. The news photo does not appear to have been trimmed, and it measures 7" x 9". It was used in newspapers at least one time, and there is touch up paint all around Chaney's head and slightly on his face, which was used to help it reproduce better. There are also some creases scattered throughout the still. In spite of these defects, the photo displays well, but bear this significant defect in mind before placing a bid on this news photo.
