A Linenbacked German Special Poster (measures 33 1/2" x 47" [85 x 119 cm]) (Learn More) Aufgalopp in Munchen (literally translates to "Galloping in Munich"), the circa 1935 German poster promoting a festival/carnival to take place in Munich, Germany. Note that this poster features Richard Klein art of a nude woman riding sidesaddle on a white horse. Munich (the Bavarian capital) used to be a carnival stronghold from the turn of the 19th to the 20th century until well into the 1930s, and it is in fact alive and kicking today. In 1914 alone, there were 533 masked balls and 145 black and white balls. This phenomenon of decadent hustle and bustle was created in particular by the artists of the Schwabinger Boheme, at first in the form of wild studio festivals, but increasingly also by artists' balls.
