Date Sold 5/1/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1942 Re-Release Theatrical English Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Scarface, the classic 1932 Howard Hawks gangster organized crime thriller ("The greatest drama of modern times!"; produced by Howard Hughes; "Adapted by Ben Hecht from the novel by Armitiage Trail"; loosely based on the rise and fall of Al Capone, who had a scar on his face and was sometimes called "Scarface", but never to his face) starring Paul Muni (in the title role; as Tony Camonte), Ann Dvorak (as Tony's sister), Karen Morley, Osgood Perkins, C. Henry Gordon, George Raft (as Guino Rinaldo, Tony's best friend), Vince Barnett, and Boris Karloff (the movie was made before Frankenstein, but released after Frankenstein, and United Artists saw Karloff's great success in that movie, and they were able to make most, but not all, of the first release posters bill him as "Boris 'Frankenstein' Karloff"). Finally, note that there was a Brian De Palma remake of this movie in 1983, with Al Pacino in the lead role (and the lead characters are no longer Italians, but are Cuban). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very rare English lobby card from the 1942 re-release of this movie in that country. We have never auctioned a lobby card from this re-release before, and now we have been consigned two of them, and we are auctioning them in two separate auctions. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. There are three small tears in the right border, slightly extending into the image background. There are faint smudges around the edges and some in Dvorak's shoulder and in the lower right of her hair (but you pretty much have to tilt the card to see those). There is a faint vertical line of scuffing going down the card and running through the center of Dvorak's face, but fortunately, it is not very distracting when the card is looked at head on (which is how it would be displayed). Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
